Alopeke is the name of the district, which Socrates lived in. Although his life is centered mainly in the city of Athens, in particular, the agora, Socrates would regularly return to his home where his mother a mid wife, his father a stone mason and his wife lived. Socrates' philosophy is deeply rooted in the practice of questioning, dialogue, and self-examination. His method, known as the Socratic method, involves asking a series of probing questions to stimulate critical thinking and help individuals realise their own knowledge or ignorance. This method of inquiry is strikingly similar to the role of a midwife, who assists in the birth of new life by guiding and facilitating the process rather than actively controlling it.
In the same way, Socrates saw his role not as imparting knowledge, but as helping others "give birth" to their own understanding. His approach to philosophy was more about drawing out wisdom from within individuals, much like a midwife draws out a child during labour, fostering growth and self-discovery. Thus, Socratic philosophy can be seen as a form of intellectual midwifery, where the aim is not to impose knowledge but to help one bring forth their own insights through dialogue and self-reflection. Alopeke is the ethos of ‘returning home’ to the self and discovering the knowledge, virtue and reason we all have inside.
I believe that counselling is most effective when it’s grounded in both evidence and understanding. My approach draws on:

Hello, my name is Tassos and I am a counsellor with a diverse professional background that spans across various industries, including entrepreneurial, team leadership, warehousing & logistics, construction, sales, and customer service. With a deep understanding of life's challenges, I bring a unique perspective to counselling, shaped not only by professional experience but also by personal lived experiences.
My lived experience as a young man with challenges, lack of direction and structure, and the added difficulties of navigating a new home country have provided the perspective and resilience I have today. My varied professional life offered many opportunities to learn from others and understand many different life experiences. Having embarked on my own business particularly through COVID was the most eye opening experience that offered me a greater wealth of empathy, perspective and expression for others.
I have in the past-coached youth sports teams in Cricket and AFL and am a qualified Boxing coach. These skills have been pivotal in understanding and relating to young men and their families. I also volunteer with local organisations such as Inner Northern Local Learning and Employment Network (INLLEN) and Raise Foundation. Both of which are mentoring program organisations for young people.
At the core my work is a passion for leadership, mentorship, and guidance. With a strong belief that everyone has the potential to rise above their circumstances, I have found my true calling in helping others unlock their full potential. This dedication to uplifting and supporting others is at the heart of my counselling practice, where I continue to draw from my diverse experiences to lead, mentor, and guide those in need.
